Protester Throws Shoe at Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao at Cambridge University

A protester threw a shoe at Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao as he delivered a speech on the global economy in England on Monday, a Reuters reporter said.

The shoe landed on the stage about a metre from Wen, who was speaking at Cambridge University. The protest echoed the hurling of shoes by an Iraqi journalist at U.S. President George W. Bush on his farewell visit to Iraq in December.

The protester, who was held by university security guards, blew a whistle and then shouted: "How can the university prostitute itself with this dictator?"

Wen hesitated for a few moments in his speech before continuing speaking. University officials bundled the protester out of the building and security guards fanned out across the stage.

About 80 people, both supporters and critics of China, had earlier gathered outside the venue. (Reporting by Adrian Croft; writing by Peter Griffiths). From:  www.reuters.com

Study Reveals Link between Apobec3 Gene and Neutralizing Antibody Response to Retrovirus.
Preservatif

Scientists have uncovered new evidence that strengthens the link between a host-cell gene called Apobec3 and the production of neutralizing antibodies to retroviruses. Published in the Sept. 5 issue of Science, the finding adds a new dimension to the set of possible explanations for why most people who are infected with HIV do not make neutralizing antibodies that effectively fight the virus.

"This research delineates a potential genetic mechanism behind the production of neutralizing antibodies to HIV, which are critical to preventing HIV infection," says NIAID Director Anthony S. Fauci, M.D. "Further research on the function of human Apobec3 could yield promising insights that inform the discovery of HIV drugs and vaccines."

NEW YORK - A Claude Monet painting of a bridge with two trains passing over the Seine while pleasure boats float below was auctioned Tuesday for more than $41 million, breaking the auction record for the French impressionist artist.

"Le Pont du chemin de fer a Argenteuil" was sold at Christie's impressionist and modern art sale for $41,481,000, said Rik Pike, a spokesman for the auction house. The previous record for a Monet painting was $36.5 million for his 1904 "Nympheas," which was sold last year.

Writer Aimé Cesaire

Aime Cesaire was born in 1913 in Martinique in the French Caribbean.  He left for Paris in 1931 at the age of 18 with a scholarship for school.  During his time at the Lycee Louis-le Grand, he helped found a student publication, Etudiant Noir.  In 1936 Cesaire started working on his famed piece "Cahier" which was not published until 1939.  He married fellow student Suzanne Roussi in 1937, and the couple moved back to Martinique with their son in 1939.  Both Aime and Suzanne got jobs at the Lycee Schoelcher.  In 1945 Cesaire began his political career when he was elected mayor of Fort-de-France and deputy in the Constituent Assembly on the French Communist Party ticket.  During the 1940s, Cesaire was busy writing and publishing many collections of his work.  He seemed to be influenced by art because he wrote a tribute to a painter named Wilfredo Lam and one of his collections has illustrations by Pablo Picasso (Cesaire xxxviii). In 1956 Aime Cesaire resigned from the French Communist Party and two years later he began the "Parti Progressiste Martiniquais."  During these years Cesaire attended two conferences for "Negro Writers and Artists" in Paris.  In 1968 he published the first version of Une Tempete, "a radical adaptation of Shakespeare's play The Tempest" (Davis xvi).  He continued on with his writings of poetry and plays and retired from politics in 1993.  All of Cesaire's writings are in French with a limited number having English translations.

The 15-minute film, titled "Fitna," was posted on a London-based Web site Thursday. It immediately drew criticism from the Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende, who said the film equates Islam with violence.

The European Union on Friday condemned a new film by a Dutch lawmaker which is critical of Islam and features controversial images of the Prophet Mohammed.

Male macaque monkeys pay for sex by grooming females, according to a recent study that suggests the primates may treat sex as a commodity.

Primates are eerily similar to humans. Their hands, their smiles, their eyes, their skeleton... their custom of selling sex? Yes indeed, say researchers at Singapore's Nanyang Technological University, who have for the first time documented cases of monkeys engaging in a primitive form of prostitution. According to the study, "Payment for Sex in a Macaque Mating Market," published in the December issue of Animal Behavior.

Ike Turner, the father of Rock and Roll (dessin de Bikouta Nkaoulou)
"I am the father of Rock and Roll" (Ike Turner, reçevant un Grammy Awards à Los Angeles, le 12 février 2007.)

Le duo produit plusieurs tubes, au nombre desquels "It's gonna work out fine", "River deep - Mountain high", "I want to take you higher", "Proud Mary" ("Rollin' on the river", reprise de Creedence Clearwater Revival) ou "Nutbush city limits".
